Turn Heads with These Prom Gown Styles By:Stephanie Larkin

Prom night is, needless to say, still one of the most important nights of any young girl?s life. The anticipation that leads up to this night can at times become overbearing for the teenager as well as for the stressed out parents. This is especially so if the teen happens to be a young female. With the variety and choice of the most exclusive gowns readily available, the young lady can transform into Venus de Milo or any other goddess you can think of.

A new life starts at the Prom?

Of course, that is the whole idea; to look and feel as stunning and beautiful as possible. Dads usually dread this moment as their little girl gradually becomes a young adult. An elegant and show stopping attire can also make this one of the proudest moments of his life. It is important that the correct style, length and colors are chosen as these factors determine the end result.

Winning styles for the Prom

Spaghetti straps or strapless dresses are an all time favorite at these events and happen to be hot on the scene right now. Bare neck and shoulders are exceptionally feminine and prom dresses are mostly designed to show off these areas. An A-line style that is body hugging and where the skirt flows all the way down to the floor is ideal for the tall slender figure as well as those looking to achieve a more slimming effect. If you are not sure as to which cut will enhance your body the best, choose the princess cut as it is exceptionally versatile. This is also a classic look and as bright, bold colors are red hot you can easily have it made in your favorite shade.

A silky and slinky flowing skirt in vivacious colors such as blues, greens, yellows, pinks and reds are the trend right now and has stunning effects. Zebra prints and peacock colors are highly acceptable for this year?s prom. A-line or princess cuts can be easily worn above the knee and look as fresh and elegant. Bubble styles or short, full and flirty flared skirts can show off a pair of beautiful legs if those are one of your best assets. The bare back has become the in thing and is a stunner if you have the correct proportions for it. These flowing princess styles show off best in silky fabrics as the natural flow of the garment adds to its elegance. Using a heavier quality silk or satin helps the garment to maintain its shape.

If you are opting for the fairy tale look, the ball gown will always remain a winner. Still remaining high on the list for the 2009 prom they can be found in deliciously soft pastel shades of pink, peach, blues and greens. Strapless ball gowns with beaded or lacey bodices are elegant and remain top on the favorite list of all time greats. The necklines can vary but the scooped neckline style remains very popular and is by far the most elegant. A beautiful necklace will immediately draw attention if it is worn with this neckline.

If you would like the dress to have the traditional ?floating ? effect, simply choose one that has extra layers of lining that will create more volume. If you are on the short side, be careful when it comes to choosing the fullness of the dress. Too much volume in the skirt will result in the attire looking unbalanced if you do not have the height to pull it off. For the short person an A-line style will be much more appealing and flattering as the desired results can be easily achieved.

Another winning style for those with varying chest sizes is the emperor style. As this style raises the waistline to under the busts, the skirt is allowed to flow freely around the hips onto the floor. This is very elegant indeed and is ideal for those that would like to hide a larger bust. If you would like to have your short legs or pear shaped body nicely hidden on your prom night, the empress style is not only hot but overtly regal. The style is also one of the favorites of most designers as its versatility is highly sought after. They are found in many types of fabrics ranging from silks and taffetas to chiffon. The lighter fabrics tend to have a much better flow and these dresses are available in short or long skirt lengths.

The final touch

Wearing the appropriate shoes, jewelry, makeup and accessories adds to the final touches to a magnificent style hopefully a perfect evening. Makeup should be light and enhancing on the lovely young and fresh face. Jewelry should be ideally classy but noticeable.

How to Choose the Color of Your Prom Gown By:Stephanie Larkin

Prom night is an extremely important event in many teenagers? lives, so deciding what to wear should be well thought out. Odds are, both you and your friends will be looking at pictures taken on the night for many years to come. Deciding on what type of dress you want to wear for the night is a logical first step. Will it be elegant and classic or do you want a more mature look? Do you want to be flirty and fun or over the top sexy and alluring? Do you want something dark and unusual, gothic perhaps, or sporty and understated? There are so many great prom gowns and styles to choose from. Make sure the prom gown you choose is one you will feel comfortable in and will be excited to show off to your friends and your date.

Let your Personality shine through

Choosing your prom dress is about more than just pointing at a picture in a magazine. Remember that your dress must suit not only your personality; it must also suit your body shape and figure. Your prom gown should be age appropriate as well. Your prom dress should be unique, you don?t want to arrive and find three other girls wearing the same dress! However, the most important choice is the color as it has to suit your skin tone as best it can if you want to enhance your natural beauty.

Trend Setting

Color is timeless, but certain colors come and go with trends. What is in vogue this year will not be the same as last year, and a good way to decide what is this years color choices is to see what the stars are wearing on the red carpet, they have their finger on pulse when it comes to the latest trends. The classic black dress is a safe bet, but black may make you look washed out or plain, so be careful when choosing the ?old stand-by?.

Why not set a trend of your own and pick a color that while not be in vogue will make you stand out in a crowd? Choose a color that will make you look as beautiful as possible. If you choose your prom gown in a color that is flattering to your skin tone you will ?pop? on the night. Forget about what the fashion trends are saying, if the fashionable colors do not suit you; don?t be afraid to go against the grain. What you want is to look your best.

Doing your homework

Start by asking yourself what color appeals to you, do you want something bright and fun or do you want something subdued? Do you want dark evening colors or pastels? Do you want to shimmer in gold and jewel colors or do you want to combine two or more colors?

Once you have decided on this think about how these colors will affect the tone of your skin, will they enhance it or undermine it? One way you could tell is by looking at pictures of other people who have a similar skin tone, eye and hair color. See what they are wearing and how certain colors affect their look.

What will certainly help you in your decision is if you understand your skin tone. A very simple rule of thumb is that dark and medium skin tones should steer clear of browns, blacks and oranges and fair people should avoid whites and pastels.

If you are not sure what your skin tone is, try holding something white against your face in natural light, then see if you can find either yellowish or brown tinges to your skin or perhaps blue and pink tinges. Skin tones are known to be either cool or warm, so if your skin has yellowish or brown tinges then your skin tone is known to be warm. If your skin has undertones of blue or pink then your skin tone is known to be cool. Cool skin tones look best in earth colors like reds, browns and yellows while warm skin tones look fantastic in blues, pinks, purples and greens.

This may be a difficult way for you to ascertain your skin tone, so there is another way that can help decide your prom dress; look carefully at your eyes. Traditionally eyes are blue, green or brown, but if you look carefully, you will see flecks and variations of other colors. If you have brown eyes you may see flecks of green and of you try matching your prom dress to this color variation it can be extremely flattering.

If this doesn?t work for you try looking at the clothes you have hanging in your wardrobe. Think about the colors that have earned you the most compliments, look for a common color trend, for instance, that red dress everyone raves about when you wear it. If this is the color that is most complimentary, then you can safely assume that it will be a good choice on the night. After all, your prom night is something you will look back on forever, and you want to make sure that your pictures reflect and capture your beauty.

Kids and College Solutions For Extra Rooms By:Larry Reaves

Your child has finally grown up and left the childhood home, swapping out your house for a college dorm. He or she will be gone for the majority of the year, and you as a parent are suddenly stuck with the rather open question of just what to do with the newly vacated room.

First Thing First

What you do with your child's room depends largely on how many things your child took with them to college, how much they left behind, and what you intend to do with the room in the future. This means that the first step is going to consist of packing up the room and finding a storage space, like a self storage unit, to deposit whatever remains. As noted before, what you plan to do with the room, and what your child will be taking with them after college, will dictate what you do with the larger pieces of furniture. In some instances you can put them in storage, in others, you'll need to leave them be.

Another Kid's Room

If you happen to have a large family, specifically one in which two kids are sharing a room, this decision is often the easiest to make. After all, you've got the room, and it's in one state or another of being furnished, it is only fair that each child gets their own room. And if you doubt that, the kids sharing a room will be more than willing to reassure you.

The Guest Room

A similar, and common solution, is a guest room. This is a solution typically best for those who have frequent guests or those who wish to appear to have frequent guests.?However, the guest room solution is a good idea when you have children in college as it affords them a place to stay when they're at home. The typical college year only has between thirty and thirty-six weeks of classes. This leaves a great bit of the year free for your child to return home.

The Fun Room

When you embrace your creativity, there are a host of ideas which are fitting for a vacated room. Depending on your personal tastes, that room might be a home office, a gym, a craft or sewing room, or the recently fashionable "man cave". Each of these solutions allows you, the home owner, to create a private sanctuary tailored either to your specific tastes or the tastes of your entire family. These ideas seldom leave space for your child's possessions, and thus can necessitate a storage solution, but the upside is that you have a new addition to your house which you get to furnish and play with.

The Student's Decision

Of course, if you leave things up to your new college student, the choice will frequently be to leave the room exactly as is. For the student, this is a means of maintaining one foot in metaphorical childhood, the housing equivalent of water wings. And, as a parent, it's not an easy task to explain to your child that their childhood bedroom will be converted into a shrine that houses a 53" flat panel television complete with a new leather couch and a surround sound system. But, if that's the solution your arrive at, the news will help your child more towards establishing their own adult existence.

One Final Piece of Advice

The ultimate solution you choose is wholly up to you and your family. However, if your child is anything like the typical teenager, you will like want to clean the room. Thoroughly.

Tips on Getting a Smooth Shave By:Jacquie Generra

For both boys and girls, it is a step towards adulthood to be able to shave. This means you are maturing and getting closer to adulthood. Learning how to shave, though, can be enjoyable. You'll learn how to shave by following these directions.

You will need:

Cream or gel for shaving
A sharp razor, needs to be new
Water, at a comfortable temperature (not too hot or cold)
Clean towel

1. Cleanse your skin and exfoliate. Whether this is the first time you shave your legs or face, you will have a better chance of a close shave when you begin with a clean area. Use an exfoliating soap. This step will get rid of any dead skin and actually lift the hair away from your skin. It will also help prevent bacteria build up that leads to razor burn and ingrown hairs.

2. You must always prepare your skin properly, with warm water. Your skin must be warm and moist before you start to shave. Whenever you can it is better to shave the same time as you shower so you can let your skin soak in hot water for several minutes before you begin.

3. Lather up with a shaving cream or gel. Squeeze some gel into your palm and then put a slight layer over your skin. Don't rub, just apply, a thin coat of gel to the area you are looking to shave.

4. Decide on the point you will start. For your legs, generally women will begin shaving around the ankle area. Men shave downward starting above the top of the hair on your cheek or jaw.

5. Use long, smooth strokes when shaving. Shaving should not be rushed. You are less likely to injure yourself when the razor is new and your strokes are even.

6. After every stroke, take time to rinse. Your razor can become clogged and lose its sharpness if you are too rough on one stroke. As a reminder, be sure to run the razor under warm water to clean it between swipes. This will take out the hair that gets tangled behind the blade and any extra shaving cream.

7. Be sure to catch difficult-to-reach spots. Some sections of the face or leg will be harder to shave than others so slow down and be gentle. On the face these might be the chin, top lip and any part close to the nose. When it comes to women the knees, ankles and bikini line are difficult.

8. Shave the area until it is very soft and smooth. Considering how thick and how much your hair grows you might need to shave each area more than one time. Run a hand over the area to be sure it is completely smooth.

9. Use warm water for rinsing. Wash off with warm water to remove cut hairs and any remaining shaving lotion, once finished. You should clean the skin but not use soap because it could irritate your skin.

10. Gently pat dry, don?t rub. Rubbing your skin dry cause irritation so be sure to just blot it with a clean towel. Don?t apply lotions or creams for a few minutes so that you don?t cause bumps or redness. Shaving causes the hair follicles to lift up and the pores to open so applying lotion too soon causes it to seep into the pores to cause irritation.

With patience, shaving is simple. Just remember to use slow and controlled strokes and you will be able to shave without cutting or nicking yourself.
